FAQ

Perforated window films are designed for use on flat, transparent surfaces such as windows or glass doors. It has a continuous hole pattern perforated into the film in order to provide a graphic visible from one side, but can be seen through from the other. Please find below a number of most frequently asked questions, that provide imaging and application techniques for these films.

Testing should be performed prior to application to ensure proper adhesion of graphics to window substrates. If there are any low surface energy coatings present on the substrates (silicone), loss of adhesion may occur.

Q: What is perforated window film?
A: Perforated window film is comprised of a perforated calendered white face film utilising a black adhesive on a perforated white kraft liner. The backing liner is a continuous (non-perforated) polyester clear film or special PE-coated paper.

Q: How does perforated window film work?
A: The film is applied on the exterior of a building, shop window, bus window or other type of transparent surface. The film is perforated with 1,5mm or 2 mm holes depending on the construction. The white side facing the exterior can be printed on with various techniques such as digital, screen or flat bed printing to carry a message or advertising. The black backing facing the interior is designed to provide contrast and good visibility from the inside to the outside.

Q: What are some benefits of using these type of products?
A: Film creates new, innovative media space without obstructing the view. It allows to advertise on your own shop window / glass building. It could be used in conjunction with opaque marking films for vehicle and public transport advertising. Moreover, perforated window film significantly reduces heat and glare from the sun, making it ideal for commercial and residential buildings, retail stores and museums.

Q: How do I know which Promedia24 perforated window film to use?
A: It depends on the application of the graphic and conditions under which it will be displayed. ProVision Film 60/40 with 1.5 mm holes and 60% printing area offers unique features and provides fuller colour graphics. ProVision Film 50/50 with 1.5 mm holes and 50% printing area will substantially improve the view from the inside to outside, making it more comfortable.

Q: Are there any transportation conditions important?
A: To allow easy transportation Perforated window film can be rolled up, with the image on the outside, with minimum diameter of 15 cm (for example on a 6 inches core). When the image is not protected with laminating film, make sure that the print is perfectly dry before rolling it over. To avoid exposing the print to any liquid aggressions, prints should be protected by a plastic bag. During the transport or storage of the prints, avoid exposing them to extreme temperature and humidity variations. For details, see our Packaging specification & article numbers.

Q: What methods can be used to print on the Promedia24 perforated window films?
A: Films are designed for wide-format digital printing (solvent and eco-solvent inks) on most wide – format printing equipment. For details, see our Compatibility list. They are also screen printing and electrostatic transfer printable. Although the film accepts the majority of standard printing methods, we strongly recommend performing a test prior to actual printing.

Q: Are there any special considerations to understand when printing perforated window films?
A: We strongly recommend performing a test prior to actual printing. In order to get the perfect printability on different wide – format printing equipment, please follow our basic Printing tips. Always make sure that you follow all manufacturers instructions and review health and safety information.

Q: What’s the difference between exterior and interior film?
A: Exterior – mount film attaches to the outside of the glass (e.g. bus window graphics). Interior – mount film, which is clear, attaches to the interior surface of the glass. In this case a mirror image must be printed, with the colour sequence printed with reverse, followed by a white overall coat and then a black overall coat. Window graphics for retails stores, e.g., are commonly printed on interior – mount film to prevent vandalism and to minimize weathering.

Q: What is the actual durability of the printed graphics?
A: ProVision Films are a 1 years film. However, the actual durability of the printed graphics is dependent on the inks and the overlaminates used. For more details, see our Laminating conditions.

Some adverse reactions can occur when applying on certain substrates, such as acrylics, polycarbonate, polystyrene, plasticized PVC or certain paints. These reactions could have a negative effect on the adhesion performance.

For longer lasting laminated graphics cleaning is strongly recommended. Follow the steps presented here Cleaning perforated window graphic, being sure to conduct a sufficient test before.

Q: Is Perforated Window Film easy to apply?
A: Using a few simple tools and following some basic rules, Perforated window graphics are easy to apply and remove, allowing window media to be changed as often as desired. For details, see our Application and removal instruction.
